WORKS 2

Whiteness

Her darkness is light

Dagmar Rauwald’s paintings (…) are circled with colours out of a ground of radiant white.(..)

In these works, this pictorial world exists more as a possibility than as a fact, more as a constant process of becoming and passing away than as a permanent presence. (…)
Art in the modern age is, to a special degree, work on the margins: on the margins of what is already known, what is already clear, what is already familiar. Dagmar Rauwald creates her pictures behind the already known, already clear, already familiar. She doesn’t seem to be afraid of it and it doesn’t weigh her down, because her darkness is light. It is only with difficulty that our words follow her into the wilderness of thought. Because the one, the secret word is not on the tip of the tongue like the news in the latest newspaper – it is always far ahead.
